Above the hamlet of Valcora, on the right bank of the Potenza River, there was a village called Sarracchiano in medieval times, with a small church dedicated to the Crucifix. The church was enlarged over the centuries (the last modification dates back to the 18th century) and a building used as a hermitage was added to it.

For a few years the church and the hermitage also saw the presence of a hermit of the Servite Fathers and subsequently the church acquired, with the abandonment of the village of Sarracchiano, the reputation of a Marian sanctuary, which it maintains to this day.

Currently the church has a single nave with a gable roof. The apse, the only original part, dates back to at least the fourteenth century. Inside the apse you can admire a beautiful Crucifixion with the Madonna and San Giovanni, an image of the Madonna of Loreto enclosed within a small temple supported in the columns by two angels and an Ecce homo, frescoes from the second half of the fourteenth century, recently restored and attributed to the painter Diotallevi di Angeluccio di Esanatoglia. A rectangular courtyard separates the church from the other building largely rebuilt in recent years and used as a holiday home.
