The castle of Gagliole is a defensive structure built by the Da Varano family to protect the territory of their duchy. In all likelihood, the first fortified intervention on the ancient keep dates back to the period immediately following the annexation of Gagliole to the lordship of the Varano, of which the sandstone tower is preserved intact, with the terrapin base (for about 6 meters) and the three sides ENW.

In front of the fortress G. Varano, inside the fourteenth-century palace, the Natural History Museum is set up by the Oppelide Foundation, which allows the observation of the evolution of life on earth through all geological eras. The preserved pieces are in excellent condition and come from different countries, including non-European ones. Many specimens have a character not only of rarity but also of uniqueness.
