Rocca Varano is an ancient fortress, built on a rocky spur not far from the town of Camerino.
Built in the 13th century as a fortified residence of the noble Da Varano family, it was then transformed in the 14th century into a defensive fortress.
For the future lordship, the Rocca was a real source of income, thanks to the tolls imposed on the people who traveled the road below that connected Rome to the Adriatic. In the period following the end of the Duchy of Camerino, it was saved from decay because it was transformed into a farmhouse.
Recently partially restored, the ancient fortress is a center of craftsmanship and a venue for conferences, exhibitions and events.
