The convent of Renacavata di Camerino is closely linked to the beginnings of the Capuchin order, which was born on 3 July 1528 on the initiative of two observant minor friars (Franciscans), Ludovico and Raffaele da Fossombrone, and thanks to the protection of the Duchess of Camerino, Caterina Cibo.
Desiring to be able to lead a life more inspired by the rule of St. Francis and his original intention, the two friars, followed by numerous others, asked the Holy See to legitimize their desire to live a "hermit life" marked by primitive Franciscan models, and after many difficulties, thanks also to the Duchess, they managed to obtain from Pope Clement VII the bull "Religionis Zelus" (July 3, 1528), which allowed him to live according to their inspiration, effectively sanctioning the birth of a new order Franciscan, alongside those already existing of the Observant Friars Minor and Conventual Friars Minor.
And today right here in Camerino the friars continue to live according to the model of the seraphic father and the first founders of the order, following in the footsteps of the obedient, poor and chaste Christ, transmitting to the new generations the flame of the Franciscan-Capuchin charism, in a way particularly here thanks to the Novitiate, which for centuries has continued to be based in this convent.
