The Magalotti Castle, called in ancient times Castrum Flastrae, was a set of buildings that stood on the hill of San Paolo since before the 9th century. Over the years the houses and walls were demolished with the aim of obtaining stones to be used for the construction of new houses and today only a few remains of the two towers, the keep and some parts of the fortress remain visible.

The Castrum was used by the population living in the valley below to shelter livestock and food supplies during enemy invasions. Already in 1240 it was under the jurisdiction of the city of Camerino but belonged, together with the surrounding lands, to the Magalotti family, counts of Fiastra and lords of the Castles of Macereto, Appennino and Poggio.
