On a promontory that in ancient writings was called Valle Segge, deriving from the term seat or chair, due to the splendid panorama that from here you could and can still be admired today, stands the Sanctuary of Beato Ugolino together with the rectory and the farmhouse that are next to it is what remains of an ancient Benedictine monastic complex built in the Romanesque style in the twelfth century which was originally dedicated to San Giovanni Battista. At the time, the first residential areas began to develop all around the monasteries, each of which had the parish church at the center.
That of Fiegni dedicated to San Flaviano was the most important in the area and had ecclesiastical rights and jurisdiction over the other neighboring parishes.
