The Cianni fulling-dyeing factory, located at the foot of the historic center of Pievebovigliana in the Municipality of Valfornace, is a factory in which hydraulic energy was used to operate hammers that beat on the woolen cloths with the aim of making them more compact. In other words, inside the fulling mill, from the Middle Ages to the early twentieth century, the last phase of the cloth production process took place. The peculiarity of the Pievebovigliana site is that it also has a dry cleaner inside. In fact, since the eighteenth century, woolen cloths, but above all hemp cloths (the domestic weaving documented in the Historical Museum of the territory is linked to the production of hemp, typical of this area), were colored with natural dyes.

The site is the only one of its kind in central Italy and beyond. The excavations of industrial archeology have allowed to bring to light a reality of immense importance and of great historical and artistic value.
