The church stands on the border between Umbria and the Marches along the west - east route on the eastern edge of the road that connects Collecurti to Forcella, in the southwestern area of the Colfiorito plateau near the border with Visso; the building is located a short distance from the Lauretano route, in a by-pass that at the height of Cesi from the Plestini plains winds through the Apennines until it reaches Spoleto through the Via della Spina used as a transhumance road until recently.
A modest sanctuary linked to the paths of faith, pilgrimage and transhumance of the shepherds who moved seasonally with the flocks.
The church is the pivot of what was once the gravitational territory between the community aggregates of Rocchetta and Percanestro, belonging to the Alviano lordship, of which traces of fortifications scattered in the area remain, then, between 1264 and 1265, passed to the Municipality of Camerino, finally under the da Varano lords of the same city, today finally the Municipality of Serravalle del Chienti and the Diocese of Camerino.
