The territory of Percanestro, a community aggregate that together with that of Rocchetta brought together the inhabitants of the area, belonged to the Alviano di Baschi (Orvieto) until 1265, when it was incorporated into the district of the Guelph municipality of Camerino committed against Foligno, and had its own statute applied by the podestà of Camerino. From the authority of the municipality in the 1400s, the community then passed under the lordship of the 'da Varano. The area today gravitates around the Church of Santa Croce, near Forcella, of ancient origin and with fifteenth-century votive frescoes, including the Madonna di Loreto, San Sebastiano, San Lazzaro and a recently discovered Crucifixion.
Of the original structure of the Rocca di Percanestro only some traces of the perimeter walls and a ruined tower with an irregular pentagon plan remain. This formed a complex defensive system with the Rocca d’Elce located on the edge of the territory of Camerino in front of the Castle of Acquafranca (today Roccafranca), a northern offshoot of the Spoleto's dominion first and of Foligno later.
