The Archaeological Paleontological Museum of Serravalle di Chienti was born in 2002 from a synergistic project between the municipality, the Superintendence for Archaeological Heritage of the Marche and the University of Camerino. Inside there are fossil remains found in the fluvial-lacustrine deposits of the localities of Cesi (700,000 years ago) and Collecurti (900,000 years ago). Among the species are the remains of mammuthus (Archidiskodon meridionalis vestinus), hippos (Hippopotamus antiquus), rhinos (Stephanorhinus hundsheimensis), elephants (Elephas sp.) And cervids (Dama clactoniana, Megaceroides solilhacus, ect.). This heritage of inestimable historical value represents one of the peculiarities of the municipality of Serravalle di Chienti.

The museum itinerary will shortly be reorganized and completed, to make room for new paleontological and archaeological finds recently restored and referable to the excavations of Collecurti and to the acquisitions due to the excavation of the Val di Chienti road axis for the works of the Marche-Umbria Quadrilateral.

The structure will also be enhanced with didactic classrooms for carrying out experimental archeology laboratories, some of which are already in operation, such as the archaeological excavation simulation laboratory.
