Along the Franciscan route of the Marca, with a deviation upstream from the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Sasso, we find the ruins of the "Abbatia Sancti Benedicti de Crypta Saxi Latronis", with breathtaking views towards the bottom of the valley and the thought of a story to be studied and rediscovered.
Uphill of the hamlet of Bistocco we find the remains of the Sancti Latronis de cripta saxi Abbey, whose monks around 1000 AD had jurisdiction over the town below. The Benedictine monastery which dates back to the 11th-10th century is normally fortified and difficult to access, camouflaged in the wood and in the color of the rock, is characterized as a closed building and currently shows us part of the tower and some curtains of the church with a round portal and a single lancet window. In the particular of the ruins it can be understood how the artifact is a real feudal fortification located on the border of the area of monastic influence with that of the Camerino state, ready to gather monks and local people in times of danger. In addition to this, it carried out the normal functions of driving force of the social and spiritual life of the autochthonous peoples, gathered in the various dependent courts.
