San Ginesio is a wonderful medieval village which rises to 690 meters. above sea level in front of the chain of the Sibillini Mountains, those "Blue Mountains" so dear to the poet Giacomo Leopardi. Located within the National Park of the Sibillini Mountains, San Ginesio has a very vast territory, of about 78 km, which still bears witness to an ancient and glorious millennial past. For almost twenty years in San Ginesio prestigious environmental tourism quality marks have been recognized such as the "Orange Flag" (since 2002) certified by the Italian Touring Club and is counted among "The Most Beautiful Villages in Italy". The Municipality has also been awarded the "Yellow Flag" of the Italian Tourist Campers Association and is a "Friendly Municipality of Itinerant Tourism". The story tells that it was Charlemagne in 773 who affixed the name of San Ginesio to the castle in memory of an image found in the church located in the middle of the hill, today occupied by the Collegiate Church, one of the major symbolic works of the country, erected in 1090 and the only example of gothic style flourished in the Marche.
