Penna San Giovanni, located close to a rocky spur between the valleys of the Salino and Tennacola rivers, rises to 672 m asl. Surrounded by a high hill countryside, it dominates the territory from the Sibillini Mountains to the Adriatic coast and boasts an extraordinary scenic beauty; it is also of considerable tourist-thermal interest thanks to the salty-bromine-iodine-sulphurous waters. Among the sacred buildings, the Pieve di San Giovanni Battista, which houses a fifteenth-century statue of the saint in cedar wood, and the Church of San Francesco, decorated with fifteenth-century frescoes from the fifteenth century (currently closed to the public), are worthy of note. Also worth mentioning is the Municipal Theater which, built around 1780 inside the Palazzo dei Priori, is a modestly sized baroque theater room, designed and built almost entirely in wood by the local painter Antonio Liozzi (1730-1807). Left for years in disuse and in a state of neglect, it was the object of last recovery at the beginning of the 90s of the last century.
