The name Gualdo derives from the Lombard wald in its meaning of wood. The town is still today surrounded by fourteenth-century walls, with sandstone curtains, and by some reinforcement towers, many of which were used over the centuries as private homes; of the imposing tower of the keep, however, after the collapse of 1972, only the base remained.
Gualdo is known from the gastronomic point of view for the traditional production of cheeses. Between religion and folklore, the first Sunday after August 15th is celebrated the Feast of San Savino, patron saint of Gualdo. Also noteworthy is the representation of the Living Nativity, which takes place the day after Christmas in the streets of the town. Finally, the processions of Good Friday and the Immaculate Conception and the weekly market on Tuesdays are worth noting.
