The Castle of Elcito (phytonym from "holm oak") is perched on a rocky spur at 821 meters high on the slopes of Monte San Vicino. It preserves few signs of the medieval castle, some traces of walls and, on the north side, one of the access doors to the original fortified structure, built in an arched carnelian stone. There is no trace of the tower. Built to safeguard the Benedictine Abbey of S. Maria di Valfucina (IX century) and as the residence of the Abbot, in 1298 it was sold to the Municipality of San Severino and, even today, it is one of the most evocative and harsh places in the Severinate territory. About two kilometers away is the Canfaito plateau with its centuries-old beech forests.
