The Botanical Garden "Carmela Cortini" of the University of Camerino was established in 1828 by Professor Vincenzo Ottaviani, professor of Botany in the Faculty of Medicine of the same University. It was he himself who chose the area on which the vegetable garden was built, which was initially occupied by vegetable gardens and uncultivated sodivi, bordered and supported downstream by a wall and crossed along by a road.Although with many difficulties, he succeeded in creating the Botanical Garden and, in an inventory of 1835, it appears that there were cultivated 1096 trees and shrubs, in addition to those of the avenues, and 887 plants from the ground and pot.
