The cathedral project (which is dedicated to the Holy Annunziata) is by the Roman architect Andrea Vici, a disciple of Vanvitelli. The cathedral is divided into three large naves in the shape of a Greek cross with stucco walls, pillars and columns of the Corinthian order. Under the altar are the relics of St. Justina the Virgin and Martyr. Along the nave, always on the right, there is the chapel of the Madonna della Misericordia, under the altar are preserved the relics (bones and blood) of St. Orsola Martyr, of the Theban legion. Close to the altar you can admire the bust of Pius VII, the work of Pietro Tenerani, a neoclassical sculptor who was a pupil of Canova and the bust of Pope Sixtus V by Bologna. The altar of the Sacred Heart, previously dedicated to St. Anne, the mother of the Madonna, preserves the relics of St. Matrona the Virgin and Martyr from the cemetery of St. Callisto. At the end of the nave you can find the Sacristy. A Christian inscription from the catacombs of San Callisto (Rome) is walled up in front of the entrance. It is written in Latin with Greek characters "Matrona filiae suae Matronae".
