According to tradition, Sant'Esuperanzio was born in Africa, in Carthage after 429, from a wealthy family of Roman origin, harboring a strong desire for conversion since childhood. At the age of twelve, he was baptized according to the Catholic rite after having managed to convince his father. When he became an adult he preached the Gospel in North Africa, leading a monastic life, then he embarked for Italy and during the sea voyage he converted the entire crew, after having stopped a violent sea storm by praying. Before embarking, a woman entrusted him with her son Formario who will follow him and will be his disciple until his death. He landed in Numana and soon arrived in Rome, where he was arrested. He was freed by the pope who, in addition to freedom, granted him the regency of the diocese of Cingoli, whose see had remained vacant, ordaining him bishop. His episcopate in Cingoli, characterized by numerous miracles, lasted fifteen years, until the day of his death. A solemn funeral was dedicated to him.
