Caldarola, an ancient village in the Macerata hinterland, is a small town set in a splendid natural environment, renowned for the presence of the majestic Pallotta Castle and its remarkable historical and artistic beauties. Its municipal area presents consistent and evocative traces of a distant past. The origin of the first nucleus of the town is traditionally traced back to a group of Christians of the fourth century AD to escape persecution. They arrived in the hill of Colle del Cuculo, the current Colcù, where they fortified their settlement. Another hypothesis, more concrete, is that Caldarola was built between the ninth and tenth centuries as a rural village leaning against a Lombard or Byzantine military building. Even the name of the town is uncertain, the most realistic hypothesis is that it derives from an ancient thermal plant, fed by hot springs. For this reason, the image of a cauldron appears in the municipal coat of arms. A small path between the green hills connects the four castles in Calderola. Over time, these belonged first to the Abbey of Casauria in Abruzzo, then to the Da Varano of Camerino and finally to the Pallotta. Leaving Caldarola in the direction of Cessapalombo, immediately take the detour to the right for Vestignano.
