The Site of Community Importance "Yew wood near Montecavallo" extends for 479 ha in the province of Macerata, between the municipalities of Montecavallo and Serravalle del Chienti; The SCI is partially included in the SPA IT5330030 "Valnerina, M.gna di Torricchio, M.ti Fema and Cavallo".
The area is a valley on the northern slopes of Monte Cavallo, between 1,000 and 1,210 m above sea level, with a residual forest of beech and yew trees, maintained in a vast area otherwise covered by pastures. The presence of yew trees in the beech forest is exceptional, of which the old stumps (some of which with a diameter greater than one meter) are still partially rotting.
