The "Gola di Pioraco" Site of Community importance covers an area of 804 ha in the province of Macerata, between the municipalities of Pioraco, Camerino and Sefro, and is partially included in the SPA IT5330028 "Scurosa Valley, Piano di Montelago and Gola di Pioraco ”.
The area is a typical example of the limestone gorge of the Marche Apennines, carved by the Potenza river into the massive limestones and bordered by imposing rocky walls. The vegetation is given by patches of holm oak, terebinth, phillyrea and other thermophilic species. The site also includes Monte Primo (1,301 m) and the final stretch of the valley of the Scarsito stream.
